How do you estimate Total Addressable Market?

2 VCs reached out to me and during the calls one of the toughest questions was the TAM, and the estimation of it. I wanted to understand what is a good way of doing the estimation?

Also one other thing that is bit hard for me to figure out which is better when the addressable market is more fragmented or less fragmented? Which one is better for the business?
