How do you fight with depression when things don't work as expected?

I noticed that when things don't work as expected, I'm getting upset. I try to work harder and harder but results don't come immediately. So for this "no result" period, I feel sad and depressed. My mood goes dramatically down, even the gym doesn't help. I can do training and think about finding solutions: "if I do more of this, then I will hit the goal". Or going to the cinema with my boyfriend and keep thinking about solutions & more work...

Eventually, I find a solution and get things done. But still can't find a way to emotionally feel calm....

Does anyone have the same issue? How do you fight with this "no results depression"?

P.S.: btw, I'm a pretty positive person 😀and things are going well for my projects.

    Hey Lisa,

I have had depression my whole life. The only tool that has helped me has been meditation. Meditation is a practice. It isn't the sort of thing that you do it once and you can now control all of your thoughts.

I can't say I have a constant depression, mostly ups and downs. Thanks for advising meditation, I'm seriously considering it for myself

    Hey Lisa!

    1. set short term/long term goal
    2. do more networking in events and leverage on friends/community
    3. share your actual & reality issues about the things you want to achieve.
    4. start small, keep trying and never give up
    5. watch videos, podcast to get inspired/motivated

    Hey Lisa,

Sounds like you're feeling the ups and downs of work. Sorry to hear that!

I read something recently that desire is an agreement we make with ourselves to continue being in pain until we have what we want.

When I have a strong desire to hit a goal, I try to remind myself in advance to expect emotional pain when things don't come easily or go as expected. This way once I hit a low point, I don't stress myself trying to scramble and solve it.

It's easier to let go for a moment, to let myself recover, and then think about it later when I'm in a better space. :)

Loved, how you describe your preparation to emotional pain. I always have too optimistic expectations

I'd try to mentally convince myself that "results" (whatever they may be to you) are almost always a lagging indicator.

You sow some seeds today, they don't germinate tomorrow; they germinate 3 months later.

Often there's a large amount of upfront effort required before you even see the light at the end of the tunnel.

It's just the name of the game. And the sooner you understand this, the less depressed you'll be.

The point is that it's better to expect the worst effect (ok, not expect, but think about the worst results for your project and think if it'll be really as terrible as you scared of it). Because it's all about your fear...strong fear. I've always had a depression because of that fear, fear of making mistakes. Anyway, one day I realized, that I even couldn't sleep well. But I've never had any problems with sleep. That time I found a new work in the office and got neck and backache. My physical situation made me visit some specialists.
I got 2 main advice about my condition. First one was about my fear of mistakes. I had a therapy and a big mental work over it. The second one was about my sitting work. It was "never buy a memory foam mattress if you have any problems with your back or neck" and yes, now I sleep on an orthopedic mattress for arthritis sufferers, lol.
