I want to build for an audience I'd REALLY LIKE to build for. When marketing and promoting your product, it kinda feels like just hanging out with people you kinda know, you know?
Is there some framework for finding this or is it just throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks?
It's always great to build for yourself but it can also keep you from speaking to other customers who are just 'not you' and having too much of an opinion on your product.
What works for me (killing two birds with one stone kinda)-> Pick a niche that you are at least interested in and then have tons of problem discovery calls with potential customers in that area. It's really possible that you'll start liking the people you speak to and you will learn more about their problems at the same time (something that you have to do anyways)
That definitely seems like the way to go for me. Is there a specific way you use to find potential customers to talk to? I usually search for people tweeting on that topic or finding related subreddits
Something that works super well is joining slack or discord communities with potential customers. But before you can message them, you need to become an active community member and that takes a few weeks for sure
I don't know of a framework, but I can tell you that it is tons easier to promote/market/sell your product when you have some sort of passion for the niche/technology/audience.
It's a lot easier to motivate yourself to e.g. sit down regularly and create content, when it is a topic your already know and are passionate about. Finding this may take some soul searching and some tries.
Yeah I totally agree! Thats kinda why I made this post. I'd come across a problem that I think I can solve and then after a while it starts to seem boring because I'm not really interested in building for that audience
