How do you go from free trial to paid?
by
Charlie Ferrer
Hello all,
I need to know.
How do you go from free trail to paid for a niche community or SaaS?
If there's no free trial option, how can you convince a customer to pay?
Please show me some examples.
Help me out here. Pleaseeeeee.....
The best strategy to convert your freemium user to a paid customer is…
To fulfil your promise of value early when they sign up as a free user.
Getting users to try your free product is easy—everybody like free stuff.
According to Hubspot's sales stats, 40-60% are likely to not proceed with your product after the free trial.
Make your user onboarding seamless & efficient.
You want to deliver on the value early to increase your chance of converting users.
Understand what's the most common need & personalize their experience. Highlight the right features at the right time.
Don't hope to convert your free user to paid user automatically.
For StandupWizard we provide a longer trial length (30 days) with all features enabled so remote teams can get used to the workflow provided by the app and decide if its the right fit for their team.
Previously I had a 7 day trial with "trial functionality" and it just wasn't working as it didn't give teams enough time to really adopt the workflow. Switching over to full functionality and 30 days has drastically improved the conversion from trial to paid user as a team using and enjoying the app for 30 days will almost always convert as it's become part of their teams daily ritual.
I would suggest determining what works best for your particular niche, sometimes a smaller trial with a subset of the features does a good job at converting and other times, like in my case, a longer and more feature riche version was needed. It may take a bit to find the perfect trial flow so don't be afraid to experiment with it.
Thanks for the insight. I appreciate it so much. If a customer sees the value in your product, then it will pay off at the end. Since it's not a SaaS product, I might do a 14 day trial.
