How do you hold yourself accountable for regularly creating content?

I was chatting with a friend today who wants to be my "accountabilibuddy" so we can stay on track with our goals.

I thought I'd ask you all - how do you hold yourself accountable for regularly creating content?

Turn it into a paid newsletter. Never written so much in my life. lol.

Haha was also going to say, having a newsletter! Never been so consistent before.

That said I also think it's about finding something you really like writing about. For me, that was travel and photography and not tech :) Not perfectly consistent but the resulting volume makes up for it when you take a long-term view.

      1. 2

Wow! That's kinda funny you both say that - newsletters. I have one but need to get more consistent about it.

Agree though, having something you really like to write about is key!

I don't want to break the streak. I'm on week 22 in a row of creating a weekly video (also repurposed as as blog post and podcast) and newsletter.

I'd be seriously annoyed with myself if I didn't get anything out in time. For me, even if no one watches/reads/listens, it's been great to get more comfortable in front of a camera.

In some ways though, I do miss having a boss to provide that external accountability. Gretchen Rubin has a cool quiz to help you figure out if you're more of an internal or an external accountability person https://quiz.gretchenrubin.com/

Wow, congrats on the streak! What do you use to keep track? An app of some sort or just taking notes somewhere?

Totally agree though in creating even if it's just to practice a skill for yourself.

No way. I hadn't seen that before. Thanks for the link! Will check that out.

Nothing crazy, a calendar mostly! I have wednesdays blocked off as content days. Can't do any of the fun coding stuff until it's done :-)

A friend of mine actually has a business around this. Accountabilibuddy For Hire. This is the first time I've seen the term used outside of her business, which is cool.

      1. 2

WHAT! So South Park came up with it?! Wow, 🏆 goes to @channingallen for finding the true origin of this term!

      2. 2

Wow. 🤯 I'd never seen this. And she did confirm it came from Southpark.

    1. 2

Wow! I wonder if it's coincidence that your friend and Caleb Porzio came up with the same term or if one heard it from the other? Cool to hear it's used in other places though and your friend has a business around it!

      1. 2

Yeah. I don't know. I thought she had made it up. She took a chance on the concept and it seems to be going well.

I can see how that would be a great motivator. It's almost selfish not to share with others!
