Hi,
I am curious about how do you integrate Gumroad payment for your web apps or SAAS. Since I am not familiar with the api I think in the early stages about providing each paying client with a code that enables them to signin with email.
What do you think about this process?
I think Gumroad is not the best solution for subscriptions/SaaS as it currently lacks features such as changing subscriber plan, modifying plan rate/discounts, including VAT in the price and other important pricing features.
Gumroad is meant to be the easiest way to sell one-time digital products (such as books or downloadable apps).
That being said, probably the easiest way is to let the customer purchase through Gumroad (you can use their widget) and then register a webhook to create the subscription on your site.
Gumroad does have subscriptions and caters well for VAT. I'm not sure how well it is suited to software subscriptions, though I'm kinda sure I've seen people do it.
Maybe @randallkanna can confirm and point to the best resources?
I moved from Gumroad to Paddle to sell software subscriptions (after trying Gumroad for about 8 months).
Yes, Gumroad has subscriptions, I just said that you can't update the plan of an existing subscriber.
They do handle VAT, but as I said you can't choose whether the display price includes VAT or not.
Both those features are possible via Paddle plus others that were really useful for me (wire transfer withdrawal, local currency support, a lot better privacy, docs and customer support, etc.).
Gumroad is poor compared to paddle. Got move!
Ah, gotcha, missed the specifics. 👍🏼
