You use an NPS / CSAT tool of course.
If I take a look at existing solutions, not including NPS tools part of bigger solutions like Usabilla, they are all really expensive:
SurveySparrow has one plan for NPS which is $199 /month.
Delighted starts at $224 / month.
Retently starts at $25 /month for 1 campaign with 1 user.
Nicereply starts at $39 / month for 100 responses per month (!) and 3 user accounts.
Promoter.io starts at $199 /month.
For an Indie Hacker, startup or SMB this pricing seems quite steep to me. Especially given that these tools are crucial in understanding your customers!
So I was thinking, is there a pot of gold at the bottom of the pyramid?
The idea would be super simple, focussed, nicely designed and affordable NPS or CSAT tool:
Then from there, features would expand based on what customers really need.
Not sure about if there would be a free plan and what it would offer, but for now I'd like to focus on exploring if there's a market for a paid solution.
Curious to hear what you think!
After this post I had other stuff to do, but I recently picked it up again because I still feel the same about this product. You can find it on https://freddyfeedback.com/?source=indie_hackers
Track a "North Star Metric". https://brianbalfour.com/essays/north-star-metric-growth
Hi @eskimo ,
If you want to use the NPS trademark, you have to buy a license ($5000/year for 2020, see https://www.netpromotersystem.com/resources/trademarks-and-licensing/ ), so most NPS tools are expensive. A licensed NPS tool with a free tier is https://fanexam.com .
However, if you don't need to collect NPS, there are hundreds of "feedback" tools available. The pricing is often relatively low. Some are from indiehackers, e.g. https://canny.io and self-hosted https://getfider.com/ .
Thanks for the great insights. The $5k license would mean more pressure to make it successful :-).
Some of the companies I mentioned also have a free tier. But just like Fanexam, the lowest paid tier they offer is expensive. This is also the case for Fanexam: $29 / month.
Canny to me is a full customer feedback tool: conversations, feature requests, communication tools, voting etc. And again expensive: starts at $50 / month.
Fider seems similar to Canny in functionality, but is very technical since it's only self-hosted.
So the idea would be only a simple CSAT/NPS survey tool with a dashboard for a (very) affordable price.
Hey, @eskimo, Greg from Retently here.
I see you dropped the NPS/CSAT idea, curious why.
Hi Greg. A LOT has happened since ‘a year ago’ 😃. See https://freddyfeedback.com/blog/looking-back-on-2020
And you can measure CSAT and CES using Freddy, as these things are only about how you ask the question, not about the tool you use.
