Hi IH,
We've spent the last few months building and refining our video creation tool Vidds.co - we just soft launched and we're wondering if we spent too much focus on the app and not enough time on the landing page.
Would really appreciate any feedback you have, don't go easy on us we want to make it as good as possible!
Thanks in advance,
Hi Edward, I think the landing page is well done. The service you are providing is clear, I like the use of screenshots to explain how the app works.
Just a tiny thing, your logo has a ninja and the only other reference to martial arts is the use of the word 'Dojo' in the top menu for the tutorials. It just seems very odd and tacked on. Might want to rethink the use of martial arts elements if it's not going to be more pronounced.
ALl the best!
Hi Kamal, thanks so much for taking the time to look at the landing page and provide your feedback. It's funny that you mention the ninja logo, as that is something I've been thinking about more and more the closer to launch we got. It's actually the logo concept from an original name idea we had, and it's managed to hang around despite the name change (i guess ninjas are pretty hard to kill)! We'll see how long he survives!
Hey Edward, so off the top of my head, here’s a few things about your copy that I think can be improved:
(Note that it’s 11pm here, so this might be tainted with a dose of today’s crankiness lol)
Gah, I hope I’m not too harsh on ya :( Lemme know if you need some more feedback, I promise I’ll be nicer in the morning 😂
Hey Edward,
It looks like you're onto something, but something doesn't feel right about the page. I'm not sure, the product is sort of billed as a powerful all-in-one tool, but it looks like the product specializes in making short loops, snazzy transitions.
Would you like to join a few of us on a landing page meetup to talk about your page? It'd be fun.
Ed's cofounder here.
It sounds like we should have some longer example videos so people understand they can make longer videos?
For the website videos, so far we only use single-scene videos, but users can add as many scenes as they want to their videos.
Hey Andrew. I don't know if it's about the clarity of the feature-set. It looks to me like you should be confidently helping a certain type of problem as opposed to adding video-making features for a wider variety of video-making problems.
You might not be competing against iMovie, but rather with using Photoshopped stills-with-words-on-them. By lowering the bar of getting from "stills-with-words-on-them" to "something-more-interesting-than-stills", your product is helping a situation that might be occurring a lot, but isn't served by the normal video tools on the market.
That's a bit my hunch about how I'd focus talking about your product.
Here's an article I wrote a while back that gives more context on that hunch:
https://sharpen.page/jtbd/universal-competitor/
And this article's title is a little more controversial, but illustrates the posture I think you could employ with Divvs.
https://sharpen.page/jtbd/make-a-worse-product-to-save-it/
Anyway, if you're up for talking this over during a meetup, please reach out: pascal@hey.com
Thanks for this, and sorry for not responding sooner. Read through your posts and love them!
As a developer, it's so hard to take a bunch of cool features and drop them to make a dead simple app for a specific use case. I think we're slowly getting to the point where we can figure out what job is most important to the people using our app. And if it's necessary, Ed is always good at getting me to focus on the primary use cases.
Hi Edward ... Later (It's past midnight) I will drop you an email about what springs to my eyes, I think and hope I will be of good help ... See you!
