I'm going through the process of building a landing page with a video of my MVP.
Do you have any recommendations on how to go about recording a product video?
Do videos with animated characters describing the product perform better?
Does it perform better with voice-over and if yes, did you contract someone out for this?
It depends on your product but I have found just recording a short video on my phone (vertically) to highlight the product, the benefits and a little story behind why you built it, can go a long way.
Much quicker to put together than other types of video.
For an MVP this is often all you need & add some sort of CTA either around or on the video can help as well.
But overall try to keep the video short, focus on one or two key points and your general enthusiasm for the idea.
I am mulling through this as well with my landing page, and right now I am leaning toward whiteboard animations - I don't know whether it works better than other types of videos - just that this is within the realm of possibility for me to produce (and I like this style personally).
I've found two ways of how to create whiteboard animations - one manually, and the other with software like VideoScribe. In both cases you'll need to first come up with a storyboard, script, and then eventually record/produce.
My guess is that you'll need to do a lot of leg work first before contracting someone, otherwise that person will just be twiddling their thumbs for a while.
Links I've found describing the two methods:
