How do you manage push notifications at scale

I recently joined a small startup that was sending push notifications to around 50k users.

It was a really slow process to send notifications to all users at once so I had to build a custom server structure that could manage 10000s of notifications with ease.

I wanted to reach out and see if any of you guys had the same problem and if so make this a SaaS product.
