how do you manage your personal/family budget? (is that too personal of question :) haha)

it's a pretty competitive world out there when it comes to apps/software to help manage your finances (ie. MINT, YNAB, Every Dollar, GoodBudget, good old spreadsheet, etc.).

i've personally used every single one but eventually stopped using them for a variety of reasons. for the past 2 years, with the help of some friends' inputs, i've managed everything on a google form that sits on my wife and i's iphones and several tabs on a google sheet with various formulas.

i'm interested in this little side project to create my hodgepodge of spreadsheets into a mobile/web-based app, but curious what the IH community currently does to manage budgets.

appreciate the input and thoughts. feel free to ask questions. happy building.

I did that exact thing- I maintained my own spreadsheet for 1.5 years and earlier this year I finally found time to turn it into a web app. Today it lives as Lunch Money - https://lunchmoney.app

I also wrote about the inception & journey to creating this here if you're interested: https://lunchbag.ca/lunch-money

I delegate it to my better half! :D

Haha hands down the best 'solution' I have ever read regarding money management. My better half doesn't care and I've taken charge.

I use an app called EveryDollar. Pretty standard but works well.

We've been using a combination of Clarity and a Google Sheet. Clarity is great for visibility into how you spent money recently (or last month), but we use the Sheet for proactive budgeting. Once we built the template out that we found valuable, it's been pretty easy and straightforward for us.

We use a spreadsheet - better than any app I've ever tried. The spreadsheet gets more complicated as time passes, but that's a good thing!

I was using Spreadsheets but then moved to Spendee which I feel is really great. But I've been lazy the last few months to input all expenses and have stopped using the app.

    So frustrated with money software...
Should establish an extendable marketplace to connect features...

I was in the same situation as you guys. Spreadsheets. Thought of building my own app. Played around with it a little and got frustrated trying to learn Java for Android development.

Two years later, I found Bluecoins on Android. Been using it for the last two years and absolutely love it. He doesn't have it on Apple though - that I know of. Guy is super responsive with feature ideas.

I'm single, so I don't know it's capabilities for multi-user on a single dataset. I know that's really important to some couples. My data is saved in a Google Drive spreadsheet. Forget if there are other options.

I keep track of assets, debts, spending, income, bank accounts, virtual accounts (earmarked money inside my bank accounts), budgeting, etc. It's all manual entry, which is what I wanted - no bank account sync. Gives me more control.
