How do you measure users' engagement in SAAS?

It's not just about usage, but tracking how often people are going through an entire workflow or process in an application. Let's say a user has logged in several times in a week, but they haven't actually progressed through the workflow. They are getting stuck. And they are frustrated.
You look at your statistics and see he used it for a week. So why'd he leave after a week? Did he hate the application, or did he not accomplish what he wanted to do? Unless you have the analytics to answer these questions, "usage" alone is a pretty useless measurement to worry about.
The statistic that matter is the one that measures how effectively users succeeded in accomplishing a desired task in your product.
Thanks for the reply. You're right so we decided to measure many things but the most important metric for us is how many active users we have. Active user means the user who schedules at least one meeting during the month.
I think emails back to you is a great metric to consider. If you're generating clients that are taking the time to reach out to you, that's typically a great thing. Also, how long your video content is viewed is another important metric. If they're watching your content all the way through, they care a lot about the problem you're trying to solve. If they only watch a 15%, that's not a good sign.
Measuring "engagement" can be a bit tricky because it's possible for a user to be very engaged but not the power-user you want them to be.
For example, a user could be considered "engaged" if they try 9/10 of your features and spend a lot of time on your platform.
But if they don't try your 1 most powerful feature that provides 90% of the value to users and causes them to become paid users, upgrade their accounts, etc, that "engagement" doesn't matter much!
So instead of looking at engagement as a whole, I'd measure feature adoption for your most powerful, highest ROI features.
You can even measure these based on different steps of adoption for specific features!
More here! How do you measure product feature adoption?
Very interesting reply, thank you for that!
For sure!
We make software for remote access https://getscreen.me/. We measure users very simply - we measure the number of active users every day who have made at least one session. We consider such clients as active users. And we are glad that their number is constantly growing)
just took a look at zencal, and it looks really cool. If you want a better command palette than vimcal let me know.
Thank you ❤️
Our Saas searchegg.io is a search bar that lets your users find & use any features in your app.
We primarily look at repeat usage and feedback from our customers to see how much we helped with feature discovery, adoption, etc. .
Our customers also rely on our search analytics to see exactly what users search for, what they can't find, and what features they use the most so they can make product decisions.
I find usage to be the best metric. If users don't find value in your app, they'll stop using it. Hope that helps :)
Hey 👋 thanks for reply. It's a lovely project! I need to try using it in zencal.
