How do you monitor websites?

I’m looking for ways to get notified if a website (a) is still up and (b) has changed at all.

I’m curious how others here monitor websites. Do you use a paid service or a free tool? Any gaps in your monitoring setup you wish you could fill? Or is monitoring not worth the effort for your use case?
