The onboarding process is definitely an important step if you want to retain new members. At Unita -our directory of communities, we have seen many communities out there and studied the onboarding process to collect the best practices and find what makes new members feel welcome. But I'm curious about how you, the indie hackers in the room, are implementing onboarding strategies.
Which onboarding strategies worked for you? How do you show all of what you got to offer when a new member shows up in your community?
A great way to do this is through email, discord and one simple video.
Once they buy our product, on the thank you page have a simple video welcoming them with a couple of things...
I) Intro about how their journey relate to your story as founder
II) How the product journey is going to unfold (the product idealy is their journey of discovery from their Hell to their Heaven)
III) Remind them on how they can get in contact through social media or inside product for help, community etc.
Repeat the message sending the video to email as first assignment
Have the discord for community after purchase. benefits:
I)You can separate customers through groups based on when the launch ocurred that only those customers can´t access and others don´t(great for tracking sales and where customers are in the journey in relation to other groups)
II) You can have groups open for all costumers like networking, Q&A etc.
III) You can teach for free through video or audio
Would love to hear your thoughts on the comments.
