How do you organize your life?
by
Aidan
Especially when trying to break and form new habits.
One good piece of advice I heard for making new habits is don't try to make a new habit instead "make it a ritual."
For example, I tried to get myself to meditate every day so what I started to do was meditate for 20 minutes after doing the dishes at night every night.
And it worked!
When you make it a ritual like "I brush my teeth after I wake up" it becomes relatively effortless after a while because "it's just what I do" and after a while it takes will power to stop doing it.
I strongly recommend you reading Atomic Habits.
Strong recommend on Tiny Habits.
Also the principle of managing one's energy, and scheduling productive time when you are naturally most productive was a big one for me.
With categories and goals. Include something or someone to hold you accountable. Break the new habit down into minimum trackable steps so you can make measurable progress. The bigger the change, the more time needed to make it.
I heavily use Todoist to note down everything I need to do during a day/week. I notice that I need to buy groceries the next day? Make a todo. Reminder to do some kind of exercise daily, even if its just taking a walk. Make a daily recurring todo. I don't always get everything done, but it's a good way to keep track e.g. of habits.
I actually wrote an article on Productivity that covers this topic.
I started using a habit tracker app to improve my food choices, exercise and reading habits. Each day I just check off if I did something. The motivation of wanting to check it off every day has been pretty powerful for me.
