Hello,
I would love to hear some thoughts in terms of promoting a newsletter and gaining subscribers or just finding the right audience
I learned the hard way that strategy fails without proper diagnosis
A job board focusing on remote impact jobs
I grew Micro SaaS Ideas Newsletter to 25,000 subscribers.
Here are some things I have done.
Beyond where, I guess I think more how. What type(s) of messages did you post to Reddit, IH, TW, Li, etc. Where you promoting the newsletter itself, or offering brilliant posts and ending them w/ "want more, sign up here" - probably neither, but whatever you care to share, thnx
It’s a mix of both.
Hey upenv, How long it took to get to 25K subs and I assume it wasn't linear was there like an infliction point
It took 2 years. Well, you can check here - Added the growth graph.
Linear or Non-linear?? 🤔🤔
If you see the graph, at one point, I almost left it for 6months with zero growth in the graph. Lots of learning, ups and downs.
Great work mate, I'm following you on twitter..
that's the reality of this game .. it takes time to build beautiful businesses
Founders need to enjoy the journey.
Great work !!!!
Thankyou!!
How did you grow your newsletter by launching side projects? Can you share some tips about that?
A few side projects that drive traffic to my newsletter. Different projects but pretty much all are connected to main newsletter funnel.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for sharing this. This is going to give me some good side project ideas to drive traffic to my newsletter 😊
No problem.
Which subreddits did you post on
Here are some reddits where you can try promoting your tech newsletter:https://launchpedia.co/places-to-promote-your-startup/?_launch_places_category=reddit
This is awesome. Thanks so much for sharing. If you or anyone else has more resources like this that would be golden!
Thank you saavn 🤗 Happy that it helped you!
This is useful thank you for sharing this
I'm glad you found it helpful 🤗
Haven’t done recently. But primarily in SaaS, SideProject subreddits and some developer subreddits.
We grew Friends Of SaaS with content.
You can post it anywhere but if the content is not right no one will click on it. Our articles went from „i think it would do good“ to „let me refer to my own article and check how to do it“.
Since our last two articles, we had people responding and reaching out and the number of subscribers grew instantly.
If i can advise with something, it can only be Content.
You can‘t fake it until you make it in the Newsletter world, you need to know your shit and really enjoy reading it.
Join this subreddit too, if you have a SaaS Newsletter.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tech_newsletter/
Friends of SaaS first articles were useful too
yes, but the two last articles are very different and very deep in knowledge. We don‘t provide a high signals newsletter, that would be easy. The type of content we are providing requires a lot of research and this is something i can‘t do alone because i am running my own SaaS. We had to brainstorm, research and seek other writers, plus promotions & cross-promotions. Competitive analysis etc ..
That’s really cool.
I think I’m subscribed to that newsletter.
I hope you liked the past two articles. Let us know if you want us to dig in deep into a problem.
In my newsletter, Newsletter Circle, I interview successful newsletter creators and ask them how they grow and monetize their newsletters.
Based on the answers so far, the most common growth strategies are:
Additionally, successful Product Hunt lunches, repurposing content on relevant subreddits on Reddit, Indie Hackers, Hacker News, SEO etc. play a role.
Despite it sounds cliche, all creators highlight the importance of consistency and not giving up creating high-quality content that their target audience needs.
You can check it out more detailed explanations from the creators here.
Are there any groups with newsletter creators? If not, we should create one!
one of the most underrated actions for new newsletters is DM outreach (twitter + Reddit). Yes, it takes time, it's not scalable, but it will help you build the foundation for your subscriber base.
LinkedIn, Facebook groups, Discord servers and I'm launching podcast in the near future :)
If you provide quality content, your audience will surely subscribe to your newsletter. LinkedIn is an effective way to promote your newsletter.
I think the best way to ask for website visitors' email addresses and get them subscribed to a mailing list is to somehow make them interested in doing so.
I built a free quiz maker tool, EmbedQuiz.com to help website owners integrate quiz widgets into blog articles and landing pages.
If the user is offered a personalized reward for the subscription, it's much more likely they will subscribe.
For example, if a blog article is about comparing different alternatives to Mailchimp, then you can embed a quiz widget, that asks some questions and if the user enters an email address, it sends a personalized report on which is the best tool for his/her needs.
It's just simply a more personalized and fun way of sending a free PDF after a subscription.
Of course, there are tons of other strategies, but I think quizzes are a great and underestimated way of growing a mailing list!
Here’s what I do. Phil… https://abitgamey.substack.com/p/branding-ourselves
Optimize Your Signup Form: Make it easy for visitors to sign up for your newsletter by placing a clear and prominent signup form on your website. Optimize the form by asking for only essential information, such as name and email address, and consider adding a lead magnet, such as a free eBook or webinar, to incentivize signups.
Leverage Social Media: Use your social media platforms to promote your newsletter by sharing links to your sign-up form and highlighting the benefits of subscribing. Consider running a social media contest or giveaway exclusively for newsletter subscribers to encourage signups.
Guest Blogging: Reach out to blogs or websites in your industry and offer to write a guest blog post in exchange for a link back to your website and newsletter signup form. This is a great way to reach a new audience and establish yourself as an authority in your niche.
Email Signature: Include a link to your newsletter signup form in your email signature, along with a brief message inviting recipients to subscribe. This is an easy and non-intrusive way to promote your newsletter to your email contacts.
Paid Advertising: Consider running paid advertising campaigns on social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, or through Google Ads to promote your newsletter. Target your ads to reach your ideal audience and highlight the value and benefits of subscribing.
Socials and then build 100 true fans by connecting in video calls. (Mon, Wed, Fri @1pm ET)

Reddit must have!
Such a coincident
I just lunch one newsletter today. Check it out

However, most of the time subscribers don’t do this out of the goodness of their hearts. Instead, they need some sort of incentive to help spread the word.
Enter referral programs.
Asking your subscribers to share your newsletter in exchange for a reward can be a powerful way to quickly grow your list.
Daily newsletter Morning Brew used referrals to catapult its list of subscribers from 100,000 to 1.5 million subscribers in just 18 months. By incentivizing branded swag like t-shirts, stickers, and glasses in exchange for referrals to their newsletter, they gave readers a compelling reason to encourage others to come on board.
They’re a great way to convert a “rented” audience of social media followers into an “owned” audience of email subscribers. The followers you have on social media channels are already interested in the work you do, and giving them a reason to sign up for a newsletter with a fun giveaway can help spur that action. Running a giveaway can also be much cheaper than other promotion methods (like, say, Facebook ads).
We see this approach working in one example from Pippi, a newsletter for book lovers.
To celebrate their one-month biz-iversary, Pippi gave away a highly sought-after prize in the reading community—a shiny new Kindle Paperwhite—to anyone who followed, commented and subscribed to their newsletter.
Doing this is fairly simple:
Find influencer partners who align with your newsletter theme and/or products
Team up for a sponsored social post (or story) that encourages audience members to sign up to your newsletter.
This way, you’re not the one asking people to sign up. Instead, you’re outsourcing the call-to-action to someone with an established audience that they’ve worked hard to build trust and rapport with. You get to piggyback off that hard work and tap into their highly engaged networks.
Take content creator HilLesha O’Nan, for example. She promotes a shoe company by encouraging followers to sign up for their email list in exchange for a coupon.
4.Give new subscribers a free gift- Convincing people to give you their email addresses in a world of email overload can be a real challenge. However, creators dedicated to building valuable content for their audiences have a significant advantage over sales-focused emails that provide no real value.
Take a page from Anne-Laure’s book. At Ness Labs, she focuses on content about mindful productivity and creativity tips. She has over 50,000 curious minds subscribed to Maker Mind, a weekly newsletter packed with neuroscience-based insights.
To encourage people to sign up, Anne-Laure offers a free welcome gift: The Beginner’s Guide to Mindframing, an actionable 22-page handbook that teaches readers how to better set and achieve goals.
5. Guest post on authority sites- The fastest way to reach a larger audience is to hop on the coattails of an authority in your niche. By guest posting, you get the chance to:
Position yourself as an expert
Reach a large audience
Promote your newsletter via your landing page
Will you guys critique my newsletter
http://devconsole.substack.com/
Share some value with people and they will subscribe to get it daily! :)
I've grown https://www.workspaces.xyz/ to 11,000 subscribers pretty much solely through Twitter to this point.
I've done a Product Hunt launch and a popular AMA on both IH and Hacker News about it as well which provided a nice boost but week to week it's been Twitter!
You can cross promote with other newsletters
Though some of them might not appreciate the competition haha
Hahah that’s a good idea but I don’t wanna be the one stepping on their lane
website, ads and mostly on twitter.
Here are some things I have done.
Posting to Reddit
Posting to IH
My own Twitter
Launching side projects
Launch on PH
Launch on BetaList
Some word of mouth ofcourse
Some LinkedIn

Certainly! Promoting a newsletter and gaining subscribers can be a challenging task, but there are a few strategies that can help you find the right audience and grow your subscriber list:
Optimize your website for sign-ups: Make sure your website has clear and prominent calls-to-action for signing up to your newsletter. You can also offer an incentive such as a free e-book or access to exclusive content to entice visitors to subscribe.
Leverage social media: Use social media platforms to promote your newsletter and reach a wider audience. Share teasers and snippets of your newsletter content on social media and include a link to sign up.
Collaborate with others: Collaborate with other bloggers, influencers or businesses in your niche to cross-promote your newsletters. This will help expose your newsletter to new audiences who may be interested in your content.
Participate in relevant forums and groups: Find online communities where your target audience is active and engage with them. Offer value, answer questions and participate in discussions. This will help build trust and credibility, and you can include a link to your newsletter in your profile or signature.
Use paid advertising: Consider using paid advertising such as Facebook ads or Google AdWords to promote your newsletter. This can help you target specific audiences and reach people who may not have found your newsletter otherwise.
Remember, building a newsletter subscriber list takes time and effort, but with consistent promotion and valuable content, you can attract the right audience and grow your list over time.
