How do you record an animation video for a landing page?
I'm looking into improving our landing page to give a better understanding of what our service provides. A natural way of doing that is to have a small video on the landing page explaining what the product does and how it can help customers.
I've no idea how to build such a video. Do you hire someone? Can you use some tools yourself?

They were captured with QuickTime, edited with iMovie and later compressed with https://ezgif.com/resize-video . I use GithubPages for free hosting.

Oh man crop video tool on that page is probably what I've been needing! Redoing the landing page for https://habit.fm (rebrand in progress) and wanted to make the app into a gif but couldn't quite get it right.
My process has been to use cyberlink screen recorder to record Android emulator and then giphy has a video to gif tool, so I tried that. My problem was the video was normal YT aspect ratio with black either side of the phone, whereas I need the entire video to just be the phone. I think crop might do it!

If you want to do the video yourself, you can record your screen with QuickTime or similar. If you want audio, try to get a decent mic. iMovie is easy for simple cutting and exporting.

Hi Julien, I like to use Screenflow, very intuitive. I use it to create short looping gifs, you can see 4 examples on this page.
I run the gifs through https://imageoptim.com/mac to reduce the file size by 20-40%.
If I wanted a voice recording for a longer video, I'd try a service like VoiceBunny, pricing here (I've not used them yet).
You might want to check out https://compressor.io/ for gifs. I've checked one of them and gives ~50% size reduction.

Before trying to create a video, consider making sure you've got the right messaging that makes what you do and why perfectly simple and clear for your target audience.
Will the problem you solve (and the way you convey that problem) really resonate with a prospective user?
Are the key benefits easy to understand and important TO THEM?
Once you get wording you like, test it out by leaving it as a SHORT voicemail (make sure to speak slowly and clearly so you can be easily understood) for a few friends in your target audience and get feedback.
Ask them to be brutally honest, since that's the only way they can help. Other people can usually identify when something is problematic, but they'll rarely be able to give you the right solution.
