How do you run a successful referral program as an Indie Hacker?

I'm thinking of setting up a referral program for MyCheckins.

I'm doing some reading to understand things better. However, most of the examples talk about funded growth-stage companies.

I'm sure building and running a referral program looks much different for us. I'd love to learn from the experiences of fellow Indiehackers.

Folks who have run referral programs:

  • How did it go?
  • How did you decide it was right for you?
  • How did you build it?
  • How did it evolve over time?

Once I gather my thoughts and decide, I will definitely share a follow-up post talking about my experiences and share the results (whether good or bad).

Cheers!

The reason why you see referral programs for products that passed 0 to 1 stage is that it's too early to set it up before. Until you hit 50-100 customers it's best to optimize user acquisition channels first. Then, once they work, you look for ways to accelerate growth. Yes, I agree. However, I'm not in the 0-1 stage. I have a good handle on acquisition and I'm looking for ways to build on top of it. Hence referrals.
