How do you see developing a SaaS that is dependent on other SaaS
Hello.
Me and my partner have been developing a service on the side. Mostly for our selfs because its a well known problem, so the pains exists and now we are iterating trying to see if our solution can be made as a Saas for other businesses.
We are heavily dependent on other services for a text-to-speech capability.
How do you plan and evaluate your path forward?
Its an overhead for sure, API changes, princing, will this Saas exist in 5 years?
What are your experiences and thoughts?
Text to speech sounds replaceable, if so wouldn't panic.
Even if this provider is best fit for your needs now, that industry is expanding and more options likely to exist if/when you need a replacement.
More general relying on a single party with no alternative would be a big red flag.
For investors, this will be a concern for sure, but solvable with a suitable alternative plan available.
For bootstrapped the risk is something you can choose to ignore at your own risk. In some instances it can create an opportunity too... if your business provides additional value but is tied to another product, logical route is you buy them or they buy you..... assuming one can afford and values the other.

It’s not the only service. Although our back end would need some adjustment to a new provider
This is something I try to think about when developing, making it as generic as possible so in case of...
The cost would be in the developing and changing APIs. Testing and so on. I don’t expect a sudden shutdown
Developing this stuff ourselves is out of scope atm but sure in the future it could be an investment and also to reduce dependency and costs.
Maybe I’m overthinking this.
Is the current service you're using the only service that can do this for you?
What would it cost (time & money) to build it yourself if it suddenly shut down?
What's the likelihood of it shutting down soon?
Every app has dependencies, just make sure they are safe bets. Good luck!
