It's so hard to stay calm during these times (a potential for a new World War, the pandemic, oil prices going up).
How do you stay calm?
One thing that has helped me is realizing that calmness doesn't come from controlling external events. It comes from changing how we relate to them.
The world will always have uncertainty, noise, and challenges. Constantly monitoring everything can create the feeling that we must react to every headline or problem immediately.
Mindfulness has taught me that it's possible to stay informed without becoming consumed. Focusing on what we can influence, while accepting what we can't, creates a lot more mental space and resilience.
I remind myself that I can only change what I can control.
So I deleted Twitter and doubled down on my business :)
But what if twitter is a marketing channel for your business ? 🥺
I have a separate account with a strictly business oriented feed
I have learned that I need to accept the situation and move forward. There is no point in frowning over something and trying to control it in a certain way.
As time went on, I realized that accepting the situation was the best solution. So I could stay calm.
I think a better question is: why is everyone so calm?
No one I know really cares. The war is just entertaining news, we are used to the pandemic, the oil prices is just something that sucks, like many other things you can't control; Oh well.
A variety of different things. I have little routines that comfort me, small things that I can look forward to everyday (ideally healthy things). Aside from that... I'm comforted in preparing and planning for whatever happens the best I can. Whatever is not in my control I still try to control for the best I can.
I use a millenary technique called: "Ignore until you can't do it anymore" XD
I've actually developed a thick skin to things out of my control.
While there definitely are a lot of issues happening, there are always things we can cherish and excitingly look forward to. I remind myself of that.
I read history books and watch movies about ancient and early middle ages. Life was much more unpredictable and turbulent back ten.
Mindfulness. It really, really helps. I do 20 minutes a day.
I understand that it's difficult to stay focused when everything around you is in chaos. But, I try to stay calm by focusing on things that I can control and not even care about things that I can't control directly.
It took me some time to build this habit but I think once you get used to it, it helps :)
