How do you stay motivated in the face of stiff competition?

I've been super excited about my next project, Swymm—a crowdsourced, interactive timeline of all history that offers private timeline creation tools. I already built a functioning proof-of-concept [Swymm.org] and got a lot of excited feedback, and now I'm building the real thing. I knew about Aeon Timeline, which is MacOS desktop software and not browser-based, and haven't been worried about it.

But then I discovered https://time.graphics/ and was extremely bummed to see it already offers much of what I was planning, but not all, and not with the same approach.

I've always known it's (usually) foolish to think you're doing something totally new—but damn if it doesn't still sting to find this. How do you keep up your motivation when you discover a new (to you) competitor that's way, way ahead?
