How do you stay up to date? 📰

Hacker News mostly.

A little bit of Reddit. A few RSS feeds. A few newsletters.

Very little Twitter, as the signal to noise ratio there is too low (and I generally only follow very interesting (tech) people, but even they don't only post new interesting things).

You can have my two dozen development related RSS feeds aggregated through feedly when you pry it from my cold dead hands ✨

I check Reddit, Hacker News and Twitter all the time, and am subscribed to several newsletter about topics important for my job etc.

A curated list of people on twitter is a big help on this + news aggregators like HN.

Then it is important to keep oneself up to date with high level movements, the paradigm shifts in the industry. K8S, Service-Meshes, Serverless, Containerization, etc to name a few. Again at the high level, not the implementation details, you will learn those when the time comes. But understanding a technology at the high level, will make it a tool for you in your toolbox. What is it good for and what kind of problems it solves?
The high level techs are changing at a relatively slower pace, so books could still be a good source. Although finding good books is difficult.

Also some podcasts are very interesting this manner, I can name “software engineering daily” which falls perfectly in to this category of introducing a technology or a concept at a high level.

I follow (PHP,JS,Indie) developers from their Twitter. They share some of what I call "soon-to-be-trend" along the way.

Hacker News, Dev.to. made the "In case I still miss it".

I tend to follow the people that write the tools that I currently use. People like Taylor Otwell, Evan You, Adam Wathan, and Caleb Porzio. These guys really care about being up to date with the times. For example, Caleb Porzio recently did a seres of tweets regarding how he is incorporating Vue's proxy based rendering .

The rest is mindless clicking around on youtube videos and podcasts to get a general feel for what's going on.
