How do you track your marketing efforts?

I've been sharing links to my product several places on the internet and I'm not really sure what users are coming from where. How do you track this? It would be really cool to have like a link wrapper that tracks the source. This might be a dumb question and there may be a lot of stuff out there so apologies in advance. But it also might be interesting to hear your different approaches.
