How do you use your personal blog to promote your product?

I have a personal blog about software development and leadership that I had stopped posting to over a year ago. Out of curiosity, I checked the traffic and realized it was still getting hundreds of views a week.

I decided to start writing in it again partly because I miss writing, but mostly because I want to promote my product.

Does anyone else use a personal blog to promote their product? How do you do it? So far I've basically got some text (ad?) at the end of each post describing my project with a link.
