How do you validate demand before building your product?

If money changing hands is the only true signal that there is demand for your product... How do you make sure that your idea is a good one before starting to build?? Are you always supposed to be able to get people to give you money before you even have something to give them in return??

Please share your project and explain how you addressed this problem!

Thank you! 🙂

This is an extremely difficult question and there are no easy answers. you could build a huge mailing list, and when comes the time to launch, you won't hear from anyone.
After gaining a bit of experience, I approach this question a bit differently. You need to make sure you'll have a steady flow of potential customers passing by and checking out your offering. For a restaurant, that's foot traffic. For a software package, being listed in an appstore or something like that will be important (forget about the two large mobile appstores, apple app store and play store, you'll get almost no organic traffic on those, however shopify app store, or google marketplate entries will still get some traffic). You have to be able to answer the question "where will you find your customers?". If the answer to this question is not clear, you should be careful, because you may get no traffic at all.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply! You're right... I'm going to have to give some real thought to how to get my projects in front of people. 🤔
