How effective are onboarding checklists?

I learned that my user's "aha" moment only comes after they add 50 companies to my tool, which requires a few minutes of prep work outside the tool before they upload.

Got me thinking about onboarding checklists like the one above.

Have you seen them be effective in getting users to take initial actions? Why or why not?
