Thinking of setting up a content stream to post snippets of new tracks for my app Flowful with animated post backgrounds. In theory the hashtags should bring in some organic users right? I think my app and it's content really lean into this kind of thing -- not only does it serve as a potential funnel for new users, but I have frequent, relevant content (new tracks) that I can post to hopefully convince followers to become customers.
However, it wouldn't be a trivial amount of manual work to create these posts. Perhaps I am just being lazy, but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone had any experience with content marketing on Instagram.
One thing I am hesitant about is I am unsure how many of my target users actually hang out on Instagram. But I guess that's for me to go find out.
Any tips / tricks / learnings / do's / dont's for Instagram content marketing?
Hi Drew,
Regardless if your target audience is on Instagram or not, being present on there does no harm.
As for content, my advice to you is make sure your content is shareable. Something people can relate to or even make people laugh. Try mixing that into your content with your app so people can share your posts with other people, eventually you will attract your target.
Yep thats a good point around there not really being much downside.
Thanks for the advice. Will need to have a think about how to make my content relatable, yet still relevant to my product.
In my case Instagram is definitely a place where my intended audience hangs out (to interact with their audience), but I'm not really sure what sort of content I could post there that would have value. I guess some people make Insta images announcing new blog posts but given that you can't even link directly it seems pretty clunky?
I suppose I could put together a few "motivational text over stock photo" just to have something in an account and then use it mainly to try and engage with people on their posts?
I have an insta account related to a hobby that I've only really posted a few things to but the hashtags do seem to get a decent number of followers (given that I've only posted like 3 things!). But posting photos of a craft is much more natural :)
Hey Drew.
The question whether to be or not to be (on Instagram) starts one step back. Do you know who are the people to download the app? Do you know what their issues, your app is a solution for are?
If you know this, then think about which channels are the best for the communication. You don't have infinite energy and/or budget (I suppose), so focus on the most efficient ones. I can guarantee you, they are on Instagram but the question is, whether this channel is the most efficient one.
Also, if you know their issues, it's then easier to come up with the plan to take your audience's attention. After many years of social media marketing, I found these elements the most important when talking about social media success:

Hi!
I'm actually having a relatively similar dilemma.
I'm working on BotMeNot and I intend it mostly to be a tool used by businesses (B2B).
It's kind of a common opinion that for such purposes IG is not suitable.
I've tried creating various types of content but I'm not sure if I can justify the time spent on creating it compared to the results I'm seeing.
Well, you can always use the same content on different channels and see what works best in terms of the metrics you want to measure - I think registrations or lead magnet downloads could work in this case.
Makes sense, will definitely have to experiment more once I get more time on my hands!
Thanks for the advice.
To me, your content seems great. But I am far from an expert.
I would also assume that IG might not work so great for B2B. Perhaps you could re-purpose the content elsewhere?
Thanks!
I think I'll explore other channels with this type of content.
