How Google Slides Helped Me In My Freelancer Journey 🤔

I still vividly remember my initial days of freelancing in the design industry. It was never supposed to be smooth and easy. Getting off the full time job was a tough decision but I knew I had a desire to do something different.

The Background

Back in mid 2016, I had just started taking up small sized freelanced projects. An account on dribbble was the first start in journey. I had began accepting work for small sized clients that involved creating icons and illustrations. Nothing too fancy.

An Unexpected Challenge

It was only until I started getting larger projects that I faced a roadblock. My line of work involves a lot of feedback and review. As a result, managing the client feedback was becoming a bigger issue than I had imagined. It was getting tough to deal with the large threads of conversations and discussion calls with the clients. What a mess that was!

I tried using collaboration tool such as WhatsApp Group chat and Slack to communicate with the clients. Although this was working out for a while, it was not an efficient solution.

What was the solution?

Packed with simplicity, I shifted to Google Slides for getting feedback. During the discussions with clients, I would showcase the work using slides.

This began to make my working pace much faster. Clients were easily able to comment on the right set of creatives and leave a feedback for me to work on. In turn, I was saved from digging through old conversations and the hassle of managing different conversations to work on reviews.

What is the status today?

While Google Slides was a good fix to the solution, I identified that getting feedbacks is a big issue that prevails in the design industry. From the onset of 2020, I have been focused on building my product, www.ruttl.com that helps users get live feedback on website design in the post development phase.
