How hard is it to ship a GSuite Add-On?

Hey ya'll, I was looking into how easy / hard it is to build and ship a GSuite add-on and was curious if other IH'ers had gone through the process before. For some reason couldn't find much existing content on this outside of the documentation Google provides.

Some questions that are floating around in my mind:

  • Any gotcha's to watch out for in the review process to get approved?
  • Is there something built-in to the GSuite SDK to charge for an add-on or is this done separate?
  • Is the security review super important to get done in the context of B2B? Seems rough to fork out $10K+ for it.
  • How does the process for multiple releases / updates work for a live GSuite add-on?

Appreciate any insight on the above + other things to know / watch out for!

Not exactly if it helps but we recently had the founder of Mailmeteor (also part of the indiehackers community) doing an interview: https://growthhacklist.com/interviews/running-a-gsuite-add-on - perhaps you can reach out to him and ask your questions.

This is AWESOME! Thanks so much for sharing your insights, I really appreciate it and it was extremely helpful.

Luckily I'm not planning on working with GMail, so I think I should be in the clear for security review (phew).

Totally agreed. I feel like it shuts out indie dev's completely from the marketplace with sticker prices that high.
