How has your week been?

Got anything to update, celebrate or rant about? Anything goes!

Not much progress on projects this week, but had a great time Laracon with 900 other PHP developers. The cult is real 😀

Zero project time, but I was at a conference in Orlando giving a presentation. The response was tremendous, so now I'm planning on recording it over the weekend and tossing it up on the interwebs.

The talk was about my experience at 4 failed startups, what I learned, and specific tactics you can take to avoid the same mistakes. Each of these "forces" that impacted the companies got a name, and collectively I referenced them as the Agents of Chaos. Went over really well!

Lots of behinds the scenes backend API stuff for my sports analytics app. Goal is to automate some of the tedious stuff and use serverless functionality to keep costs really low.

The learning curve on serverless is not trivial but I'm already seeing the returns on how to scale it.

Just reflecting on my accomplishments this week. I made a ton of progress!

My week has been about learning React + Redux, to finish Metamask based login for https://cryptoday0.org . Very informative, normal week.

It's not been a great week for me.

After some less than amazing personal stuff last week, I've been really unproductive this week. Waking up late, slacking in the gym, doing lots of small tasks but avoiding the big stuff. Hopefully a weekend off will kick me out of this funk.

What I am really happy about is suddenly seeing some amazing progress from the founders taking my SalesForFounders.com course.

We're now at the point (~7ish weeks in) where things are coming together, deals are being closed daily and people are starting to make money. It's a really great feeling watching them succeed - maybe even better than when I do it myself!

I hope next week is better for you. 🤗

        Thanks!

It's weird, because looking back I actually was quite productive...

        • recorded and edited a podcast episode
        • did a pretty great consulting gig
        • reached out to podcasts and was accepted to appear on 3 so far

Not sure why I feel like I didn't achieve much this week 🤔

Been there. For me those feelings usually come from a week full of bigger tasks. Just this perception that less was done because I didn't cross off a bunch of things on my list, but the actual impact / importance tends to be way higher.

          Here's to next week!

Have had a few great conversations with potential customers (fixed a bug, helped somebody with their pitch with upper management to use our service) and have been knee deep in infrastructure work.

I try to push off the infrastructure stuff as long as I can, but after 6 years, my server's starting to look a bit too dusty for my taste. Built out multiple web servers talking to a central database and been focusing a ton of efforts on resiliency if the backend goes down. Got a sweet CI/CD pipeline in there (FINALLY). Hoping to flip the switch on that this weekend and then get back to more important product dev.

    HBU?
