How has your week been?

Do you have anything you want to share, rant or rave about?

A surprising optimistic week here: typically my app DAU growth slows and even decreases during the summer but I've had two consecutive weeks of ~4% growth without any major events, so I feel like recent changes are actually working (my hit rate is usually never this good). To be helpful, here's what I think is driving it:

    • ASO: I finally got serious, read a bunch of blogs, using App Annie (because... free), and running frequent tests
    • iPad: The app is optimized for iPad now, which is a nice additional channel!
    • Sharing: I updated the design for sharing memories in the app and usage has gone wayyy up (takeaway - don't just use the default iOS share menu)

Gotta savor those good weeks when they happen! Hopefully, I'm right about the "why" and can fan the flames in the coming months 🔥

Feel like I've hit "the middle" on a lot of what I'm working on. Somewhat of an unnerving feeling, but good to acknowledge it and accept the fact that it can't always be the "shiny projects" that you have at the beginning of a project.

Has given me some time to reflect on where things are at, plan where they are going, and figure out how to address the less than glamorous maintenance work while potentially opening up some new doors in other directions.

    HBU?

A struggle to get things done, so had my head down focusing on the essentials.

We had to let go of our nanny a couple weeks back, so gone back to kid shift work between my husband and I. Really not ideal. Makes me all kinda sad that it's delayed some of of the personal projects I wanted to work on. Boo.

Bet the time constraints are helping a ton with prioritizing what's essential and what's not :)

Hopefully you find some time to document the journey a bit, rarely any successes without a bit of a struggle!

    Depressed 😔

I have been struggling to sign up a customer for my service.

I hope the comments on your other post helped.

It's been a great week. I was able to finish the MVP for my SaaS service FeatureNinjas.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the first Beta testers to get feedback and build in the next set of features that the users really need, before going live.

So I'm taking some time now to find a way to get in touch with right people who are interested in using the Beta.

    Anxious? Uncertain? Worried?

my MVP was made 3 months ago but righ now, I'm working on the branding side to connect with the dapp and blockchain community. I just need to get my message through.

It's been pretty solid! This week has been by far the most productive week I've had in quite some time. I've been waking up early, knocking out my e-commerce contract work by noon and spending the rest of the afternoon reaching out to my network for ideas/opportunities. I've already gotten some really great responses so far and have a few meetings set up for next week. I've come to the realization that networking is going to be my path to product development.

The SIGGRAPH conference is in Los Angeles next week and I plan on meeting with some old colleagues and friends. I'm slowly dipping my toe back into the post-production technology waters... hopefully, it doesn't get bitten off!

It's been quite well. I've posted a survey and got some feedback. It turns out a lot of people had the wrong idea of what my project was doing. So that was done, I hope they understand now.

I would sum up my current state as 'worried'. 🤔

Looking to enter a space I am not a member of and don't have tons of experience in, but I do see a need. Can I build 'something'? Sure. There are competitors doing similar things, though more broad. These competitors are already well known and mostly liked. I do plan to reach out to people in the space in some slack/facebook groups when I have some mockups to gauge any reaction.
So does someone with no inroads or major experience in the community even stand a chance? My negativity says "No, you're just wasting your time and getting your hopes up." But, I know there's something there. It's just can you reach that illusive customer???

    1. 2

Can you find a way to relate to the community? I think it's surprising how fast you can feel like a member after having frank conversations with others (just about their problems and such, not necessarily pitching your product).

Being an innovator from the outside can be a huge advantage!

Thanks, Matt. You're not wrong. I'm in slack/facebook groups, but honestly I've just been in learning mode as they ask a lot of technical marketing questions that I don't have answers to. So, I try to get involved where I can, but it's going to be tough since it's not my field. It's like a marketer coming to a developer group and not having a clue, that's how I feel - Like a fish outta water.

        1. 1

Ah I see, that's a lot tougher... I think you're doing it right though. Hopefully, the discomfort is just a part of a learning curve - might get easier as you continue to have conversations?

We have just updated our register page to increase our conversion rate, we hit 50 registered users and made a live presentation at a meetup. Small but useful steps mostly :)
