How I built a niche SaaS with a $0 budget (and why I'm ditching Google Docs)

I noticed that ghostwriters for high-level CEOs have one massive problem: The Approval Gap. Sending a Google Doc leads to "Access Denied" emails, messy suggested edits, and CEOs ghosting the approval because the mobile experience is terrible.

The Solution: I built Lancer Write, a streamlined portal where writers send a Magic Link. The CEO opens it (no login required) and taps a single button to approve.

The "$0 Budget" Tech Stack 🛠️

To keep my burn rate at zero while I search for product-market fit, I used:

  • Framework: Next.js 15 (App Router) – The speed is insane.

  • Auth: Clerk – Their free tier is generous and saved me days of work.

  • Database: Supabase – Handles my user profiles and content drafts via Row Level Security (RLS).

  • AI Engine: Llama 3.3 via Groq – I needed a model that understands the "1-3-1" hook structure for LinkedIn, and Groq’s latency is near-zero.

  • Payments: PayPal SDK – I chose PayPal because it’s trusted globally by freelancers and requires zero monthly fees to maintain.
