Hey Indie Hackers,
I’m Julien, solo founder and caffeine-dependent builder of LinkedinScope.com — a weird little tool that blew up faster than I expected, all thanks to a bit of reverse psychology, well-placed shade, and OpenAI.
LinkedInScope is a free AI-powered tool that analyzes your LinkedIn profile… and roasts it.
But like, constructively.
Users paste their profile link, and the AI gives them an “audit” with:
Their strengths
Their weaknesses
Suggestions on how to make their profile more powerful
And a summary that feels a little too honest — sometimes a little too real
It’s designed to be shareable, slightly spicy, and addictive. Basically, it tells you what your LinkedIn profile actually says about you — not what you think it says.
Two reasons:
Make noise. I needed a way to generate traffic and visibility for my main product (Linkeme – a smart link tool for creators & solopreneurs).
Give users something they’d want to share. Not a boring PDF. Not another resume tip. But something a bit fun, clever, and brutally honest.
I figured: if people are obsessed with how they’re perceived on LinkedIn, what if we gave them a tool that showed them… in a mirror they didn’t ask for?
Spoiler: people loved it. Especially when it hit that sweet spot between useful and “oh no it dragged me.”
What really made this pop wasn’t just the AI. It was tone.
Instead of the usual polite AI tone, we injected a more candid voice — sometimes dry, sometimes cheeky, sometimes a little too honest.
Here’s an actual line the AI gave someone:
“This reads like you wrote it while trying to impress your ex and your boss at the same time.”
People shared it because it felt like a friend roasting them. And when it told them they were great? That felt earned.
People are far more likely to share content that feels personal + slightly controversial
OG tags matter more than I ever wanted to admit
“AI” + “humor” = engagement rocket fuel
You can build virality into the flow if you respect the user’s ego and give them a story to share
Firebase + Netlify Functions + OpenAI API is a stack that feels like duct tape, but when it holds… it holds
Launched quietly (and awkwardly)
Got organic shares on LinkedIn, Twitter, even WhatsApp
People started linking each other’s profiles like a game
It’s now generating leads directly into Linkeme
React + Vite + Tailwind
Firebase Firestore (yes, I regret it already)
Netlify Functions
TypeScript
OpenAI’s GPT-4 for the roasting
Paste your LinkedIn, get roasted, maybe cry a little, then share it like a champ.
Happy to dive deeper into the viral mechanics, prompt engineering, or the 40 hours I lost trying to make OG tags work on Netlify Functions. AMA.

" ... profile reads like a student trying to impress their way into a party they weren't invited to"
Ahh that stings, but I can't really complain as it is true. Trying out this web app is very timely as I just updated my profile a few days out of school. It's definitely not for the thin-skinned.
What I liked: it's like having someone say what everyone else is thinking but too scared to say it out loud. I tried it on a few profiles: mine, a mentor, and a publicly praised well-made profile, and the app had something to say for each one.
What I didn't like: very easy to imagine that some people wouldn't have the sense of humour to get the value. There are recommendations for improving your profile, but you do have to scroll a fair bit. By that time, some people might peel off after seeing too many roasts.
This is pure viral genius honestly...
thanks !
Savage angle is interesting - innovative way to get attention in the AI tooling crowd.
thanks
its an amazing idea, so harsh that even I even wanted to check your other web because of my rage!
thanks
An insight into LinkedIn profiles can help with LinkedIn marketing, improving the age-old 0.1-0.5% conversion rates
I built a full product (BrightScanr). I'm looking for a co-founder who can help scale traffic from 0 to 10k MRR. DM me if you’ve got proven growth chops — equity only, no salary (for now).
Looks promising — so your approach was to create a free offering to funnel users toward the paid products? Clever move.
Nice idea, @julien.
Can you share any metrics about:
- how many people visited this page
- how many people shared it
- how many people visited your main product?
I think engineering-as-marketing is a fantastic way of user acquisition. Kudos!
I made a new post with some numbers of the first day (post linked to my linkeme product)
It has potential so basically your strategy was build a freebee to direct people to the paid stuff .... smart
Nice idea — i will give it a try. I just launched my own SaaS too and finding early testers has been tough. How did you get your first users or feedback?
I really like the idea presented, but when I tested it, it couldn’t analyse my profile 🙂 (profile extraction failed twice). But in general, I think it’s a good hook, if everything is working fine.
it's a free app, so the backend is not scalable enough , we can perform one analyse at a time. Friday was a crazy day with not far 1 user every 2 minutes, so yes you could s some problems. Just try again, you will find a spot !
Interesting tool! I will give it a try definitely!
Hey! I just tried your service and honestly, I can see some real potential here. The roasting part is fun, but I think you are sitting on something way bigger. What if you added actual suggestions based on the role alongside the roasts? Like, roast someone's LinkedIn profile but then give them solid tips on how to improve it. You can suggest relevant courses or certifications as well.
That would be such a cool "laugh and learn" vibe that I haven't seen anywhere else. Right now, if people just want roasting, they will probably just go to ChatGPT and ask it to roast them. But if you combine the humor with genuine helpful feedback? That's something unique.
There are honestly so many directions you could take this thing. If you want to brainstorm some ideas, I' would love to chat more about it. But even if we don't end up connecting, just wanted to say I really liked what you have built so far. Nice work!
Wow , thank you for the thoughtful comment, and honestly… you’re spot on.
The roasting angle is the hook, but you’re absolutely right: the real long-term value lies in the “laugh and learn” mix. We wanted to build something that grabs attention (and traffic) with a little punch, but under the hood, the tech already has the potential to suggest improvements based on role, seniority, and even writing tone.
We’ve actually started building an internal versions where the AI gives actionable advice (like profile summary rewrites, headline ideas, etc.), but combining that with course suggestions, certification tips, or even role-specific CTA rewrites is 🔥.
Your message just gave me a solid push in that direction. Would absolutely love to brainstorm more if you’re up for it — shoot me a DM!
And again, thanks a ton ,this kind of feedback is gold 🙏
Thank you so much for your message. I sent you a connection request on Linkedin and when you see my message there, you will know it's me. I would really love to connect. I feel like there's never been better time to make life better with technology . Looking forward to chatting with you.
I like the idea, but don't agree with all the feedback. Interesting tool though!
Thank you! 🙌
Totally fair — the feedback is intentionally a bit bold and spicy. It’s meant to spark reflection, even if not everything lands.
Glad you find the tool interesting though! We’re improving it every day — feel free to roast us back anytime 😉
Thanks for sharing, I will definitly try with the profile of my boss !!
I love the Brutal honesty, it's very clever !!!
Hey Julien, it was quite an insightful read. I'm trying to build an MVP myself of a CRO audit tool, but I'm not the tech guy. Do you suggest I vibe code my way into an MVP or try to get a tech guy as a co-founder and build it together?
Interesting tool! I will give it a try definitely!
