How I built SMSCode to 100K+ users — a virtual number service for SMS verification

I built SMSCode out of frustration. As a developer, I needed reliable virtual phone numbers for SMS verification, but every existing service had the same problems: overpriced, slow OTP delivery, terrible APIs, and poor documentation.

So I built my own.

What is SMSCode?

SMSCode (smscode.gg) is a virtual phone number service for SMS verification across 200+ countries. It supports 700+ platforms including WhatsApp, Telegram, Google, TikTok, Facebook, and more. Pricing starts from $0.0044 per activation with no subscription required.

The tech stack

Built with Rust (Axum) for the backend, Astro SSR for the frontend, PostgreSQL and Redis for data, deployed on bare metal servers. Performance and reliability were non-negotiable from day one.

Where we are today

100,000+ active users, growing organically. The product is now launching publicly and I'm focused on making it the most developer-friendly SMS verification service available.
