How I Built Textideo Alone and Turned My Ideas into AI Videos in Minutes

This is a long story, but one that taught me a lot about building something people actually need.

A year ago, I found myself frustrated. I had creative ideas I wanted to turn into videos, but every platform I tried came with limitations: subscriptions, watermarks, forced public sharing, or clunky workflows. I wanted something simple, flexible, and private—so I decided to build it myself.

That’s how Textideo.com came to life.

What Textideo Does

Textideo is an AI video generation platform that transforms your text or images into professional-looking videos within minutes. Here’s what makes it different:

  • Multiple AI models like Veo3 for diverse styles and effects.
  • Instant previews and downloads—no waiting around.
  • Pay-as-you-go—no subscription required.
  • Privacy-first—your videos stay yours unless you choose to share.

Why I Built It

I built Textideo as a solo developer, solving a problem I personally faced. Every feature addresses a real pain point: no more subscription traps, no public-sharing pressure, no wasted time waiting for renders.

Since launching, over 2,000 users have generated more than 10,000 videos, with positive feedback highlighting how easy and flexible the platform is. One user even said:

"I finally feel like I can create professional content without being a tech expert."

Key Features

  1. Multi-Model AI – different styles and outputs for your creativity.
  2. Fast Workflow – from text prompt to finished video in minutes.
  3. Pay-As-You-Go – only pay for what you use.
  4. Privacy Control – keep your work private or share it.

The Solo Developer Journey

Building this alone was challenging. From integrating AI models to designing a smooth frontend, handling payments, and scaling the system, I learned every part of SaaS development hands-on. It wasn’t just coding—it was understanding what real users need.

Why Indie Hackers Might Care

Textideo is more than a tool; it’s a case study in identifying a gap, solving it efficiently, and delivering real value as a solo founder. If you’re exploring AI tools, video creation, or building a SaaS alone, this story might give you ideas—or inspiration—to launch your own project.

Love how you cut through the noise Smoteria. Pay-as-you-go plus privacy-first feels like you listened closely to actual creator pain points. Curious if you noticed whether users care more about speed (minutes to render) or control (privacy, no lock-in) when deciding to try Textideo?

Love how quickly you moved from idea to execution. Did you use any no-code/ AI tools to speed things up , or was it all custom built?

    1. 1

Appreciate that! We mixed both: No-code tools (like early UI prototyping with Webflow) helped iterate fast on user flows, and AI tools (for automated testing/docs) cut down busywork. But the core multi-model logic? Totally custom—needed it tight for our specific use case. Worked a charm! 😊

Two quick ideas for adoption: a small templates gallery with saved workflows, and the ability to pin model versions and seeds for reproducible runs. Also, how do you handle privacy and data retention for prompts and outputs, and how is pay per use metered?

    1. 2

Love these ideas—they’re spot on for adoption!
Templates gallery: We’re actually building this out now! Saved workflows (with your pinned models/seeds) will let users reuse, tweak, or share setups—should cut down on repetitive work big time.
Pinning versions/seeds: Already live! Lock in exactly what you need, and runs stay reproducible—no surprises later.
On privacy: Your prompts/outputs never feed into training. We store them for 7 days by default (for edits), but you can set auto-delete to 24hrs or immediate. Fully GDPR/CCPA compliant, so it’s your data.
Pay-per-use: Billed by generated video minutes (rounded to the second) + unique effects used. Real-time dashboard shows usage, invoices break it all down—no hidden stuff.
Thanks for the input—this helps shape what we prioritize!
