How I gained 300 users in 1 day

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a small win with you!

I'm building a macOS productivity app and have been trying to build an audience in Twitter for the past 2 weeks. I got 50 users by DM'ing a bunch of folks and launching in public. Twitter's great -- it can get you a lot of traction with its network effect but it dies off very quickly. Getting a lot of attention on my product definitely had me fooled thinking Twitter was the only place I needed to launch.

Realizing that everyone was just hyping me up, I gave Reddit a shot and launched on r/macapps. To my surprise, everyone started engaging with really good feedback and 300 ppl took the time to download the app in 1 day!

Word of advice: Try not get tunnel visioned into one channel and always look around! I'm still trying to find channels where my target audience hangs out in.

tl;dr - Twitter was a red herring for me. I posted in a related subreddit and I got a lot of downloads.
