Step 2: Read the full context
Don’t DM after skimming a title
Pull 1 specific phrase they used (this is what makes the message feel human)
Step 3: Send this DM (no links, no pitch)
“Hey! Saw that you're {specific problem they mentioned}. I built a tool that {very specific outcome tied to their problem}. Want to try it out?”
That’s it.
Why this works:
You’re starting from their pain, not your product
They already have high-intent to try your tool
They have to reply to get the link
Once they reply → you share your link.
Not before.

This makes sense. The biggest lever for me was keeping the first message stupid simple + not dropping the follow-up. I’m building ReplyFox right now and we wrestle with that speed vs sincerity tradeoff daily. One thing that helped: end the first DM with a yes/no question and do one follow-up 2–3 days later. How are you doing follow-ups so they don’t start feeling copy-paste?

I think I have given up on reddit.
Reddit changed a lot, they are more than happy to ban you for any sort of marketing either obvious or not. I think the idea is to force you to use their ads system. I lost three accounts to bans already. Nah, it's not for me. I am getting better luck with Quora.
Yeah, it's difficult to navigate Reddit.
But I've been promoting there for 6 months without getting banned and it's been my biggest growth channel. Haven't tried Quora, but if you're getting results there I'd like to try it out.

I Agree w/ not link sharing off the bat, also it can also get you banned in some forums - but if you get the DM from then - you then can give that info privately. It hurts lots of eyes- but maybe that 1 eye is all you need at that moment. 100 eyes and 0 sales - is still 0 sales.

Yeah, if someone is truly interested they'll reply. If they're not, them seeing the link will not matter at all (in fact it hurts your metrics / retargeting ads)

They're both very useful.
Replies compound. It can take 3-8 weeks (depends on how many start ranking on Google) before you start seeing organic traffic all coming from old replies.
DMs are immediate. They can bring high-intent visitors right away and allow you to talk 1:1 which increases your sign up rate and helps you get qualitative feedback.
So I recommend doing them both.
