How I Got 186 AI Founders to Sign Up in 60 Days Without Spending $1 on Ads

Two months ago I launched AiToolsRecap.

Today, 186 AI founders have signed up, and I haven't spent a dollar on ads.

The biggest lesson wasn't SEO or traffic.

It was creating a reason for people to come back.

When a founder submits a new AI tool, our reviewers receive an email notification inviting them to review it and earn credits.

That simple loop created something interesting:

• Founders submit tools because they want visibility and feedback.
• Reviewers return because new tools are constantly being added.
• New reviews make the platform more useful.
• More activity attracts more founders.

Instead of focusing only on getting new users, I've been focusing on giving existing users a reason to return.

The result so far:

• 186 founder signups
• Thousands of reviews and ratings
• 3.3M Google impressions
• Referenced by ChatGPT & Copilot
• Cited by MSN
• 100% organic growth

Still early, but I'm learning that marketplaces and directories grow faster when both sides of the ecosystem have a reason to participate.

For founders building marketplaces, communities, or directories:

What was the first retention loop that started working for you?
