How I got my first sales for the largest Figma's UI-kit and what I've learned from it💰

I made the biggest commercial UI kit for Figma. My motivation was to make something of outstanding quality. Something that I would be happy to use in my own daily work as well. I'll tell you briefly how I started to sell it.

As was said in a great book, "Having a good mailing list is a license to print money". Well, that sounds wise, and we need to collect emails. After product was made, I decided to launch via waitlist. I was really inspired by the examples of how cool it works. From there I proceeded as follows:

1️⃣ I created a landing page on Webflow. But instead of "buy," my CTA was "notify me on the day of the launch". I promised a generous discount for earlybirds, and people actively subscribed. They found me through various Slack communities where I actively talked about my product.

2️⃣ After collecting about 60 emails, I started the sale and sent notification letters. To my surprise, 20 sales happened in the first couple of days (I guess the deadline for the earlybird discount worked very well). People were emailing me excited feedback and it was highly motivating.

3️⃣ Then, after various advertisements, I decided to launch into Product Hunt. But it is necessary to be well prepared. Recently Figma launched FigJam (it's a Miro-type whiteboard) and it was missing components for the wireframing. I noticed that and spent a day making a mini-product out of pieces of my UI kit that would solve this problem. Then I made a landing page for collecting emails and gave away this wireframe kit for free at Product Hunt. This helped me collect 200 emails, which would then help me in a future full launch.

4️⃣ After reading about 20 articles about Product Hunt, I booked a launch date with top hunter Chris Messina and sat down to polish the prep materials. Now I'm very curious to see what results my launch will show.

What I've learned

❤️ Quality and love for your product plays an important role. This is not my first try at making a UI kit for sale. On previous times, I did what everyone else was doing and didn't finish it. Now I wanted to do something really cool and I knew how to do it. I put the desire to make money aside and made it a priority to help myself and others with their daily work.

👯‍♀️ You don't need crowds of subscribers. A few dozen people who are really interested in what you do are enough.

💵 Waitlist is a very powerful mechanic. If you handle it competently and cleverly, you can earn a solid amount of money in a day.

📚 Books help a lot if you use them as a step-by-step guide. After I read "The Brain Audit", one advertiser wrote that my banner CTR was the highest.

🚀 Get ready to launch on Product Hunt by launching a small piece of product and gathering an interested audience. You shouldn't think of a product in the classic sense, it could be anything: a newsletter, a kit, a report, a list of something.
