How I got my partnership for my cybersec agency

Hi y'all

I haven't posted in a long time because I have been busy building https://cyberfuse.co

I am happy to announce that finally, we are getting a lot of traction.

Here's the story :

6 months ago I decided that I want to start a cybersecurity agency that helps startups scale and grow their services, since I have a background in offensive security it seemed pretty easy.

How do they grow and scale with cybersecurity? Well simple:

  • As a SaaS, you are subject to regulation regarding your security and you can get fined if you do not get compliant
  • And you need to show enterprise prospects your security if you want them to buy from you.
  • Also it can boost credibility and trust

I was wrong about the cybersec industry! Cybersecurity is not a crowded space, it s is a highly competitive one. I tried for 2 months straight to get my first customer with cold dms/email and content marketing, but either they never responded to my message or they said that they already have a partnership with another company.

After doing a little bit of research I came to the conclusion that Linkedin inmail might be a good idea, bought LinkedIn sales nav, and sent about 50 cold inmails/mo (this is the number of cold inmails that comes with buying sales nav)

Nothing! And all of those cold inmails were a lot of work, I was spending 20-30 min for each one, researching like crazy everything about the prospect.

After that I was burned out, I sent ~100 inmails, over 500 cold emails, and 30 Twitter DMs.

I took 2 weeks off to recharge and get my motivation back. I was contemplating a lot about the lost time and what I've done wrong.

A couple of weeks after that, I stumbled across https://www.edendata.com/ and their CEO, I found this blog post: https://joinhampton.com/blog/bootstrapping-an-upwork-hustle-into-a-6m-business-in-two-years which was incredible, I regained my confidence and came back with a new plan, networking, and partnerships.
I created a white-label section on my website, and my only focus was to get a partnership going.

I created a couple of Reddit posts, in which I expected to get flamed, but actually, the opposite happened, someone even recommended to me some companies to try to get a partnership going.

Sent a couple of well-crafted cold emails, where we offer our services as a white-label solution with a "free trial" attached to prove that we are competent, and out of nowhere I got a meeting going. It turned out that cybersec companies lack personnel, and they benefit a lot from quality white-label services.

They use us to outsource expensive and repetitive tasks, and we over-deliver top-notch quality services, we also boost our credibility and reputation like crazy doing this.

We are almost done with the free trial of our first partnership gig, then it's time to get that 💰

Although the goal is to not white label for eternity, it is an excellent first step.

Lesson?

  • Keep an open mind when approaching a new idea, do your research, and learn from people that have already done it!

Great insight! Followed you on Twitter.

It's often smarter for small agencies to contact and work with larger agencies in their space who have a great ability to sell and close customers but maybe not the capacity to deliver on the work.

Ideally you want to move up the "value chain" but this is a great way to get your first money rolling in. Congrats!

      Thanks for the follow!
Yes that is the strategy, move up the value chain!

How did you word the Reddit posts to get past the mods?

    1. 1

If you are giving some value in your posts, and not only take, reddit mods have no issue with you

Cool to see another red-teamer on here. Very solid looking site, and well worded listing of services.

Awesome, I found good success cold emailing using Apollo IO > Zero Bounce > LemList. I load up about 2000 per month (cost around $400p/m). I have recently integrated that with LinkedIn connects which I am waiting to see if it works. Quality enquiries per month are very low but those who do respond usually have a good conversion rate (maybe 25%). This could work for your business on your earlier not white label / partner focused model. Happy to discuss really keen to engage and share knowledge in this community.
