Hello community today I want to share with you how I grew the community of my side project on LinkedIn to +500 followers in ~2 months.
I created chatgpt-jobs 3 months ago to help AI experts to land a job in this growing industry.
The first version took 2 weeks, a simple web page with a list of jobs for chatgpt experts: prompt engineers, ai content writers, educators with this experience, UX writers, etc.
After one week only a few visits were registered in my tracking panel, so I decided to build a LinkedIn page.
I like LinkedIn because is more focused on professionals and has more capabilities like posts scheduling.
Since I wanted to help GenAI experts to find a job I decided to publish interesting job posts (found in many platforms like ziprecruiter or LinkedIn) in a way that all the job description could be summarized highlighting the tasks related to AI. Here is the prompt I use to extract and format this type of information.
You will help me extracting important information from job descriptions, I'll send to you job descriptions and you have to do the following:
Extract maximun 8 key (most important) tags, location and the
category it is related.
Considerations:
- I only have 7 options for categories: writing, legal, research, marketing, education, Software
engineering, prompt engineering, design, choose one or more.- I have the following predefined tags: marketing, education, chatgpt, claude, gemini,
langchain, research, generativeAI; choose an of these if some match or generate new ones if neccessary.
At the final part of the answer add a linkedin post for the job adding some details like salary range, type full-time, part-time, etc. Also try to extract the important task related to chatgpt or other generative (LLM) technologies used in the job, add the hashtags #chatgptjobs, #chatgpt #jobs and others of your consideration.
Please do not invent fake data if some information (like salary range, etc.) is not provided.
Prepare to receive the descriptions.
Is better to have a template ready for social media posts, and also try to stick with only one at the start, the advantage?: Less time spent thinking about the way and more focus on the content. Many users do carousels, image posting or even articles on LinkedIn try the one that best fits to you.
This advice is obvious but is what separates you from competitors, and what makes you grow faster. In my case as I recommend jobs these are published every day, so at least 3 posts must be published every day. It doesn't have to be the rule in your case, maybe your side project is for marketers so make posts twice a week on how to use your product in a marketing strategy, etc. It depends on the regularity of your ideas.
On the first days there were not many views and reactions, is normal when starting but there was a post about a role in data annotation that got me many comments and reactions (wait for that post). So, I started to comment the job application URL and suggest users other similar jobs. There were also inboxes asking me for very specific roles like math teacher with AI experience, even lawyers' experts with AI tools, etc. So, I decided to help them publishing and giving them the jobs they were asking for. Even if you don't get anything in exchange give value to people, that will separate you from others.
Chatgpt-jobs is intended to be used by job seekers with different roles: GenerativeAI specialist, content writer, prompt engineering, education, marketing, etc. But is also important to take attention of what hypes more your audience, in my case I noticed that many of users ask for data annotation and AI content writing jobs. So, my efforts can go more for those types of jobs, maybe adding a special section for those jobs, or even a new subdomain for those types of jobs. Try to design a way to put more emphasis on the niches that best suits your side project.
Build in public movement has evolved a lot. In these days I think the best way to be engaged in your side project is to help people with your product. But not only posting new features, instead teach people on how to use your product to do what is intended. You can start with a YT channel, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. Just start giving value to people.
