How I increased conversion by 2.5x

Since I announced Retro 1 month ago it’s gotten:

  • 1.2k unique page views
  • 94 newsletter sign ups
  • 1 enterprise early access request

The biggest win was increasing newsletter signup conversion by 2.5x

1/15 to 1/22
1.8% conversion

1/22 to 1/29
5.2% conversion

Here’s how👇

1) Following the advice of @HarryDry, I adjusted the above the fold section to be clearer

The formula:
Title - explain the value
Subtitle - explain how you’ll create that value
Visual - let the user visualize it
CTA - Make the next step easy

Above the fold before

After
Above the fold after

I had a CTA link that opened a Google form in a new tab

This form asked some questions - name, company name, job title, work email, etc

I thought it would be good to learn about my user, but it added friction

Swapped for an email input directly in the page

  1. Updated the copy to explain Retro using the pain, dream, fix method from @AmyHoy

In this method, you want to describe the pain that the user is feeling

Explain the dream to them and have them imagine what life would be like without that pain

Introduce your solution as the fix 👍
Pain, Dream, Fix copy

One mistake I made

You should always attach a utm_source query parameter so your analytics tool can keep track of referrals to your website

50% of my traffic was direct, meaning they went directly to the landing page (no way that this is correct)

Tracking allows me to know which channels are working best

Recap on how I increased conversions by 2.5x on my landing page

Updated the above the fold section

Added a CTA directly into landing page

Added some long copy using the pain, dream, fix method to to explain Retro

P.S. always add utm_source to your links when sharing online

Hi @farazamiruddin, thanks for sharing the insight! What has your primary strategy been so far to get pre-launch signups? Also, I see that your CTA is "Get 2 months free" - how has that performed in your opinion to something like "Join the waitlist" or "Notify me when ready"?

I think it’s performed well. My conversion is at about 5%.

I want to incentivize people to who join the waitlist early.

Love how you applied Harry’s tips in this new design! Looks great and really motivates me to do the same with future projects.

Thanks! I love trying advice that I get on here. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
