How I Launched My First AI SaaS Yesterday

I just launched Blog Recorder, my first SaaS ever!

The MVP is this: record an idea you’d like to write about with your voice and AI structures it into a blog post. It adds headings, lists, and other formatting and also creates a title for you.

You can just ramble unstructured thoughts about your topic (as if you're talking to someone) and Blog Recorder turns it into a structured article. You can then edit it in a rich text editor, and export it to HTML or Markdown.

I started marketing it by building in public and growing a waitlist to 200+ people. I also gave technical presentations at a few developer conferences where I briefly plugged the product at the end.

After a long time developing the product, it was ready to get it in the hands of the first few users, so I reached out to some friends and people who were interested. They could test it for free, and all I asked for was their feedback. Some of these people became active users, and Kent C. Dodds was one of them and eventually became my first paying subscriber on a yearly subscription, even though he could use it for free. (What a great guy!)

How I launched Blog Recorder on launch day

  1. A LinkedIn post was scheduled early morning
  2. Prepared a launch tweet and an image for the post
  3. Prepared a launch email for my waitlist
  4. Then I reached out to friends to ask them if they could help with my launch post by liking, replying, or reposting.
  5. Created a discount code in Stripe, and added it to all pricing pages, and also added this discount code in the OG image of the site.
  6. Posted the tweet around 7PM CEST after dinner
  7. Sent people DMs when the post when it was up (and this triggered X bot protection, that was scary for a second)
  8. Spent a while just replying to people
  9. Made some adjustments to the launch email and sent it
  10. Posted on Threads
  11. Posted on WIP (I got access yesterday, so why not!)

The results of the launch so far

🐣 21 new users
💰 1 new annual subscription
🎤 7 articles recorded by new users

For some reason I had a bigger launch splash in mind, but that was probably just me dreaming. In the end, I'm super happy with my launch!

$22 MRR, baby! 🥳

What's next

And now comes the fun part. More marketing, and making the product even more awesome based on real user feedback.

If you would like to try it out, you can record 2 articles for free to see if you like it. Just go to https://blogrecorder.com to sign up, and click "Start free trial" once you're logged in.

And if you want to know what I'm planning to add to Blog Recorder soon, there is also a roadmap.

Eddy, congrats on shipping Blog Recorder! Turning voice into structured blog format is neat. Curious — what channels drove your waitlist growth? Also, any automation or feedback during early trials you found surprising?

Niceee. Congrats! Would love to try it for freeimagereziser.com and voicerecorder.org. Many new posts ideas, 0 time to start writing 😂

    1. 1

      That's awesome, thank you!

  6. 2

Great work Eddy! Keep going :)

  7. 2

Congratulations, how did you come up with this idea?

    1. 2

I got the idea while driving and being frustrated about not being able to write down some ideas I had for articles + I always kind of struggle going from a blank page to something with structure, even when I could easily talk about the topic to someone for a few minutes.

So I got the idea to make this app that solves both those problems for me. I can record anywhere, and completely skip to a good first draft which I can then edit and publish! :)

  8. 2

That's great, Eddy. You are off to a good start. Keep at it and congratulations on your launch!

  9. 2

I wish i could do the same. But kudos to you!

    Congratulations on the launch!

  12. 2

Awesome, congrats! I am currently in the launch phase with my AI SaaS as well and figuring out my 0 to 10 users path.

Could you share steps on how you built up your waitlist?

By the way I checked out your tool, pretty cool, after I recorded, it said monthly limit reached, so couldn't get the article out.

    Thanks

    1. 2

I built up my waitlist by posting about it on Twitter/X for the most part, and some people signed up after seeing me speak at conferences

And thanks for trying it out! I will go fix that bug about not being able to see the article after reaching the limit

    2. 1

Can you try again? I just created two articles on a new trial account, and I am able to access them, so it should be fixed! If not, please send an email to [email protected] so I can look into it

      1. 1

Hey Eddy, I tried again and it worked. I created an article titled "Embracing AI: Enhancing Creativity, Not Replacing Jobs" did a splendid job!

        1. 1

Awesome! Glad to hear you like it!

          1. 1

Just signed up for a Blog Recorder trial. Given the way my mind works, this may be exactly what I need. Can't wait to try it.

What was your strategy in building your wait list?

    1. 1

I shared development updates on Twitter/X and LinkedIn and that is how I did it.

A great idea! I also want to share my stories.
I've developed a Chrome extension as a Marketer.

With the amount of online content I consume daily, from competitors' blog posts to our own documents, and from lengthy YouTube videos to industry news, finding specific information became tedious. I often found myself racking my brain for keywords and hoping for the best on Google (which doesn't always work).

So, I created SaveDay to eliminate the wasted time searching for scattered information. Now, when I come across something valuable, I simply save it to my collections. Then, when I need it, I can search it back using related terms (no need for exact keywords). If you're interested, feel free to check it out. I'd love to hear your feedback.

And if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Thank you!

Maybe I'll share more about it sometime, but here is the short version:

      • Astro for the marketing site without a CMS
      • Next.js for the application (hosted on DigitalOcean)
      • I deploy using Terraform and GitHub Actions
