I just monetized a new project for the first time - I made 20 bucks!
I started a mailing list for remote jobs back in January.
My thinking was I'd build up the mailing list while working on the website. But this has taken longer than I expected.
Then I realised I do have 426 people on my mailing list with a 56% open rate so I may as well see if anyone wants to buy an advert.
A couple of my friends said they were interested and I just got paid $20 from Marc Köhlbrugge from WIP/ BetaList.
I didn't have any payment plan set up when I pitched him so I quickly put together a form in Carrd with Stripe
It's a good deal for employers because most remote job adverts cost at least $299. Whereas $20 is absurdly cheap for hiring a developer and is really a no-brainer provided you can show that the job advert is going to be seen by a reasonable number of people.
I send my remote jobs newsletter every week or I pay a subscriber $50 as punishment.
If you're hiring a permanently remote position I'll sort you out for 20 bucks 😀
Awesome Pete, I love the $50 punishment, haha.
Yeah, I think that was the best part of the post. The title is also a nice antidote to all of the $10,000k MRR in 3 days posts on IH.
Yeah, it's really easy to get down on yourself reading about other people's success. I just remind myself that life isn't a zero-sum game, and then I am able to be happy for them without feeling bad about myself.
Nice! How did you build your list?
And have you thought about sending them an email to schedule a call with you, doing 10 interviews and figure out what problems they have, come up with a quick solution as MVC and make money?:)
Congrats on the sale Pete!
