How I made over $1,000 in sales in 3 days with tiiny host

Last week I did over $1,000 in sales for tiiny.host in 3 days through an entirely different sales approach - The Lifetime Deal.

📦 Static hosting for life for $59.

Whilst the deal definitely helped, I think its the execution that played out really well.

Here's how I did it 👇


I created this custom widget to sit directly in the hero section of of my landing page.

I constructed the deal with 3 stages in mind and for a limited quantity. Showing exactly how many deals had been bought was important.

I created a custom exit pop-up that gives one lucky visitor a free lifetime deal if they retweet me.

After launching the deal live on the site I then searched Facebook groups for "lifetime deals" and joined the most relevant.

I posted in an engaging way, making sure my OG image and OG title were attractive.

I immediately got few likes and comments on one of the posts. A few asked questions about the service & deal and I made sure to respond to every single comment in minutes.

This is a part which I think really played out well.

The issue with a lot of Lifetime deals is that visitors are often sceptical about the longevity of your product. They're not sure whether you're a scam and just going to run away with their money or not.

However, being active in the groups and promptly replying to any concerns or queries instilled confidence and directly converted at least 5 sales (indirectly probably many more).

I even managed to make a fan who commented on the post in separate group vouching for tiiny.host:

    Nice strategy. I'm wondering though, what are you planning to do if you ever drop the project? Will the users who bought the lifetime offer be compensated?

      Lifetime here is referring to the product lifetime as opposed to the users lifetime? 😅

      Meaning if the product comes to the end of its life, so does the deal. At least that's how I think about it. 🙂

        Yeah you're probably right. Still when I see "lifetime" I always think of users' lifetime. I guess legally there has to be a clause in the terms and conditions.

          Totally agree that we can't just assume what meaning the users will assume. It should be mentioned IMO. :)

      Yeah, I thought about that. I see many SaaS using the lifetime deal, but not sure what happens if they shut down for some reason.

      Yep I think most consider it "lifetime of the product" which for me personally seems like a scam, what if the product shuts down in 2 months time?

      Personally if we do shut down early we're going to pro-rata the payments up till 5 years. So if we shut down in 2 years time then you'll receive 3/5ths of the payment back.

      We don't intend on shutting down at all, this is just the beginning really and our costs are really low so not an issue.

    Lifetime deals sell pretty well as people generally don't like SaaS.
    Look at the success of AppSumo.

    I love the idea of the popup.

    In this way you avoid an end point throught the process and also make your product shareable.

      Thank you! Yeah I highly recommend and very straightforward to set up if you code. Alternatively I think there are some tools out there for it.

    Congratulations on the sales, I like both the simplicity and effectiveness. It was a great move to communicate scarcity via the deal counter. Wondering what played for you better tweets or FB groups posts?

      Thank you! Facebook Groups more so. There's a lot of LTD groups around.

      Yep I think the limited supply helps but its also because we cannot support a large number of users at once. This gives us a manageable Growth.

    Why did you choose to make lifetime deals? And at $59 a piece, is it profitable for you in the long run?

      Thank you! Yep I made sure to do the math. Because it's static web hosting, our costs are a lot less compared with traditional hosting. Our value add is our simplicity and easy to use control panel.

      Additionally we plan on adding more features to upsell in the future. So plan on building upon these subscribers.

    Curious to know how many tweets did you got? Also what exit intent pop up app did you use?

      We created the exit popup ourselves. It's pretty simple with react.

      So far 31 retweets with 1,400 impressions

    Is Netlify not a free alternative?

      Great question I'm always asked!

      Yes there are services like Vercel & Netlify which are huge products in many ways and also provide backend hosting.

      We're openly an indie company but backed by AWS to offer the large scale performance (cloudfront, s3 etc).

      At present we focus only on static websites so are perfect for microsites, test projects, small businesses etc.

      Our goal from the beginning has been to make the product as simple and straightforward to use as possible, it comes across in our UI. Smallest number of clicks to upload your site.

      Having said that, we definitely plan on increasing our feature set to somewhat match Vercel/Netlify where it makes sense (github integration, analytics etc) but really want our customers to drive our direction. I don't think the internet needs a third competitor to Vercel & Netlify.

      Additionally, the password protection feature we offer is $20+ per month by other services. That's included in this deal. This is great for sharing prototype sites with clients that you don't want to publish live yet.

      To summarise, our strength is simplicity + ability to offer premium features at a lower price point (password protection, analytics etc).
