How I overcame the dread of writing a long-form blog post

Years ago, when I was a fresh new content writer who felt absolutely fake, I'd feel complete dread and misery at the thought of writing an article for my workplace.

I didn't what I would write.

I didn't know if it would be good.

I had no idea if I could finish it on time.

And I'd live with this sense of misery that ate me up all day, every day. It was taxing to live this way.

When I fortunately came across the book called 'Accidental Genius' by Mark Levy, and it shifted everything for me.

I learned about FREEWRITING and just putting anything down on paper or on screen and letting go of any notion of structure, sense, relevance, or meaning.

When you freewrite, guys... you FREEWRITE.

This means setting a timer (5-20 mins), and just typing away like a mad person until the timer goes of. You do not edit. You do not hit backspace or delete. You also do not think.

At this stage of the process, the initial draft stage, no thinking is necessary.

First, get s#it down and let the mental conflict and self-hatred get processed.

Later, you get down to editing and fixing things by moving paragraphs around, deleting stuff, adding stuff, and cleaning it up to look like you knew what you were doing the whole time.

This changed everything for me.

It took me a few weeks but freewriting removed all dread I faced as a writer. And the passage of time helped too.

Today, I'm confident. My clients are happy. And I can write easily - so much so that I wanna do something else.
