Hi Indie Hackers!
One of the biggest pain points in self-publishing isn't just writing the book—it’s getting feedback. Most authors end up in "Review Hell," juggling multiple PDF versions, messy email threads, and lost comments.
Today, I’m excited to announce that Pressdown just got a major upgrade: the Collaborative Review Module.
Our goal was simple: make professional book reviewing as seamless as a Google Doc, but tailored for the publishing workflow.
It’s a dedicated space where authors can invite editors, beta readers, or colleagues to review their manuscripts directly within the Pressdown environment. No more "Final_v2_edit_fixed.pdf" attachments.
Live Shareable Links: Generate secure, private links to specific editions of your book. Reviewers don’t even need a Pressdown account to leave feedback.
Contextual Commenting: Highlight any part of the text and drop a comment. It’s precise, fast, and keeps the conversation where it belongs—next to the content.
Review Dashboard: A centralized "Command Center" for authors to track all incoming feedback, mark suggestions as resolved, and filter by chapter.
Threaded Discussions: Editors and authors can have real-time back-and-forth discussions within each comment thread to clear up any ambiguity.
Version Control Integration: Reviews are tied to specific "Editions." If you update the book, the comments stay pinned to the version they were made on, preventing confusion.
For indie authors, speed and clarity are everything. By moving the review process into the cloud, we’ve cut the feedback loop by nearly 40%. It’s about spending less time managing files and more time refining the story.
I’d love to hear how you handle feedback on your long-form content! If you're an author or an indie maker, how do you manage the "messy middle" of your creative process?
