How I tinkered my free angel job posting to get 5x more and better applicants
Most of you would have tried hiring on angel.co . Sometimes maybe you get the correct hire. Most of the times there is stream of people applying for few days and after that there are zero applicants. I really found this happening a lot and was unable to hire for the Senior Backend Engineer position after trying on multiple sites. After that added the following section to my job posting
Recruitment Process (Don't hesitate to apply)
We don't look at resumes. We believe in hiring the best across the world irrespective of location/ethnicity/educational background. There will be an analytical/programming assignment which you can submit in a few days. After this we have a small chat with you to assess culture fit and conclude the hiring.
I also changed the location so that people from different timezones can apply
After this I got atleast 5 applicants each day for 2 weeks. Got lots of high quality ones too. I gave all of them an assignment project and was happy to see atleast 4-5 submitted it back in a few days. Overall I learned a few things:
- People are hesitant to apply to jobs as they are afraid that they don't have enough experience / qualifications
- Lots of people who don't have top school degree/impressive resumes do a better job at work, so it helps to look beyond resumes
- There are some many talented people around the world and being a truly remote company really helps you widen the net
