How I Took a Risk to Achieve My Dream of Building a Product Business
Hey Adrian, My biggest challange has always been finding customers. I know how you found your first customer. But then how you moved forward and found more customers? Like you focused on Adwords and that bought most of the customers ? Would love to hear that side of the story as well. As an engineer it's easy to focuse on tech but finding and talking to customer is the scariest thing for a tech guy. Would love your comments.
In the beginning, we created two "profiles" of the customer.
age 25-40, marketing specialist / marketing manager / marketing director at consumer electronics / consumer goods companies
age 25-40, customer support manager / customer care manager / customer happiness manager at consumer goods companies
After that, we tried to reach people from these profiles using Linkedin, using social media groups, posting comments on articles read by those people.
In the same time, we tried to produce content that those people search for, on our blog. We started to get requests from customers via our contact form.
When using LinkedIn did you find certain times to posted were more effective?
I used LinkedIn more for searching appropriate profiles and contacting people. I didn't discover best timing for this.
Thank you for your feedback on this. The reason why I asked is because I am working with my friend to help bring more awareness to his product he just launched CommentBox.io. I am trying to find the best platforms to help accomplish this.
Thank you so much for your reply @adibalcan
Yes, that's the most important part of the story that is missing. Please share your acquisition strategy on going from 1 to 100 customers.
Well done!
Felicitari Adrian! You could ask some of your customers for testimonials, it helps tremendously
We have testimonials from customers, but they are in app in case studies section
Then you could add some to the landing page 🙂
We will consider this, thanks for suggestion!
Congratulations Adrian! Happy to hear these stories, and mostly interesting that you say the business is tied with who you are. Myself I tried in the past to launch a product, Web analytics tool for SEO, because I wanted to work on a product but the idea was an obsession from a past job and the value provided vs technical challenges did not fit so I finally closed it and started a web development company to keep improving my skills by offering services. Point is as a developer/hacker with full stack skills and some understanding of digital marketing, I find by working on a services business I am missing something, a part of myself doesn't feel fulfilled.
Right now still working on the services business.. trying to switch from developer to a more business and manager role, and in the meanwhile started to play with a small side project. Hope to find the clarity and strength to take the best steps in the future..
