How I Validated My SaaS Idea by Actually Using It Every Day (And Why Most Validation Advice Is Wrong)

Everyone talks about customer interviews and landing pages for validation. But here's what actually worked for me

I was drowning in project management tools at my agency. Six different platforms, $400/month, constant confusion.

Instead of surveying random people, I built exactly what I needed. Then I used it daily for six months.

Real validation signals I found:

  • My stress levels dropped significantly
  • Client complaints about project status disappeared
  • We stopped missing deadlines completely
  • Other agency owners kept asking what we were using

The "aha moment" wasn't a survey response. It was when I realized I hadn't opened Slack for project updates in weeks.

Have you validated your idea by being your own power user first? What did you discover that surveys never would have revealed?

I did almost the same. I faced a problem: deploying my sample software to AWS cloud was difficult.

I started to build a tool to make it easy. I'm using the tool myself on daily basis, I've created infra and uploaded my website to AWS cloud with my tool, Lime Boost. I've deployed the AWS infra that the tool needs by Lime Boost.

I have shown it to many 'random' people and got many valuable tips, for example deleting test environments is really painful and you quite often postpone it, loosing money for the infra that you don't need anymore. I decided to include that functionality into my tool.

My idea is that everything has to be easy, and user don't need to study AWS services to be able to get full benefit from their extraordinary services.

Here is a link to Lime Boost if you want to see how it works https://Limeboost.io

Nice concept!! I do see you have a video but as someone who does tech, I think it would be super helpfull to have a small guided demo video about how this would work!

Also I love the who we are section(plus that balancing act looks tough 😀)!!

This is the first lesson I learned while doing something of my own!

I run https://proofstories.io -> Its a blog that focuses on actionable insights from other founders about getting their first paying customers and validation!

I've been using everything I've learned from the people at ProofStories! And honestly it has been working!!

If you can't make it work yourself then very low probability it will work for someone else!

PS: Feel free to post team camp on Proof Stories for some extra eyeball!!
